Top 7 Ways to Save Money on Your Wedding

1. All inclusive venues instead of a blank canvas.

Finding big open venues like warehouses, barns or backyards may seem like a steal, but you can end up spending a lot trying to make them beautiful. Consider everything included in the wedding package, and think about the rentals you may need to bring in (ie tables, chairs, lounge furniture, backdrops, tents, decor, linens, etc.). Those expenses can add up quickly if you haven’t accounted or planned for them.

2. DJ instead of a band.

You know your crowd better than anyone, and you can decide if a band is important to you and your guests experience. Bands tend to be significantly more expensive than a DJ, especially if they’re from a different city. They will typically charge you travel, fees, and sometimes even lodging fees, depending on how far they have to travel. If a band is a must, consider using a local one.

3.Limited bar instead of open bar.

Not every crowd will need a full open bar. You know your people best. Having a partially hosted bar serving beer, wine, and a signature cocktails is not only fun, but cuts your bottom dollar. Everyone loves a signature drink.

BONUS: Consider closing your bar during dinner and have wine only service if you have a limited amount of open bar time.

4.Rent your decor instead of buying them.

Buying decor can add up quickly, and it’s not always guaranteed you will be able to resell it after your event. Rent your decor, and avoid having to take it home, and cleaning it after your event.

Bonus: The exception to this are the purchase of candles at IKEA which may be less expensive than renting and if you’ve hired a
#dayofweddingcoordinator they can help with its setup and teardown.

5. Skip the wedding favors.

80% of the time these do not end up getting taken home. If you insist on favors, make your favors something drinkable or edible, a donation to your fav charity or offer a bag/box to take treats from your dessert bar home.

6. Design your own paper items

Order and address all your own paper items. Programs like Canva allow you to design your own invitations to send for print direct;y or to a local print shop. Also, websites like Etsy and zazzle.com run awesome sales where you can customize their templates to fit your needs.

7.Dessert bar instead of a cake.

Offer some cake alternatives - not everyone loves cake, and the amount of cake we throw away at the end of the night is always devastating. Save your money and go for a smaller cake with 1-2 tiers and order some cupcakes and cookies or other dessert alternative. Dessert bars are really trendy this year.
